Tennis Australia, which hosts the annual Australian Open, has launched a hackathon offering $8,500 to participants that develop the best algorithm for automating match scoring. The competition, called From “AO to AI,” provides participants with optical tracking data that combines the 3D coordinates of the tennis ball throughout a match and the 2D coordinates of each player. Winning algorithms will be able to successfully distinguish between three outcomes, including “forced error,” “unforced error,” and “winner.”
