Researchers at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence—a research organization started by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen—have released a dataset called the AI2 Reasoning Challenge to encourage others to create algorithms that use reasoning and everyday knowledge to answer multiple-choice questions. The dataset consists of almost 8,000 grade-school science questions and 14 million sentences about science topics. The researchers found that traditional algorithms relying on web searches and word correlation were unable to answer these questions more accurately  than random guesses.
