Researchers from the Hebrew University in Israel and the University of Tübingen in Germany have created a dataset to track mortality rates in 79 countries from 2015 onwards. Their aim is to provide insight into the excess mortality rates different countries have experienced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The dataset includes information on the number of deaths that took place weekly, monthly, or quarterly in different countries. One insight from the data is that countries badly affected by the pandemic, such as Peru and Ecuador, have had annual mortality rates that are 50 percent greater than their country’s average prior to the pandemic.
