Visualizing the Lifespan of a News Story

Google and design firm Schema have used Google search data to create several data visualizations that demonstrate how different news stories hold the public’s attention. The visualizations show that events with simple conclusions, like July’s blood moon, slowly generate more interest until dramatically decreasing in interest once the event happens. Anticipated news events, such as the North Korea Summit, have symmetrical slopes of interest, indicating that interest grew and declined at roughly the same rate.
