The Guardian has created a map of the United States visualizing how home insurance premiums have increased between 2020 and 2023 due to rising climate risks, analyzing data from a recent study on property insurance by the National Bureau of Economic Research. In the map, the darker the color of a county, the higher insurance premiums have become there because of hurricanes, floods, fires, or other natural disasters. According to the visualization, Florida is one of the most affected states, with insurance premium increases averaging $11,000 a year and increasing by 42 percent in 2023 alone.
